"47 million uninsured" is NOT the number.

We keep hearing "we have to provide coverage for the 47 million uninsured." This is misleading. Please note the above cartoon (click to enlarge) does a great job of breaking down this number. After close examination, the fella on the right (3.5 million = about 1% of our US population ) is without insurance due to a system that is labored with high costs. Others are either not eligible, or choose not to participate, even though they are eligible and have the resources to purchase. Also, please keep in mind, just becasue these folks aren't insured, doesn't mean they cannot get care. Doctors still take cash.

Is it really worth ripping and replacing a system to address the needs of 1% of our population?
